There’s something special about transforming a house by the ocean. Our recent project in Rockaway, Oregon, was no exception — and this one came with a cool twist. The home belongs to David Schwartz his wife Tracey and of course their dog NOX, David is the CTO of the cryptocurrency company Ripple. He was one of the main creators of the Ripple ledger. From start to finish, this beach house renovation was a journey of creativity, precision, and craftsmanship.
Starting with a Clean Slate
Every great remodel begins with a plan. We worked with an architect to get detailed drawings and then secured approval from the city. Once everything was green-lit, we took the house down to the studs. Stripping it back gave us the opportunity to strengthen the structure and reimagine the space without compromise.
One of the first big upgrades was reinforcing the floor system. With the home’s location right on the coast, durability was just as important as design.
Custom Features That Stand Out
This renovation wasn’t just about updates — it was about creating statement pieces. A floating steel staircase, custom-built in Texas, became the centerpiece of the home. Its modern, industrial style contrasts beautifully with the natural setting, giving the interior a bold personality.
To bring the outdoors in, we installed a large bi-fold door opening directly onto the beach. Now, ocean breezes and stunning views are just a step away.
Modern Finishes for Coastal Living
To unify the design, we installed luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring throughout the house. It offers the perfect balance of style and function — durable enough to stand up to sand and salt air, but sleek enough to give the home a modern, polished look.
The Finished Retreat
By the end of the project, this Rockaway beach house had been transformed into a fully modern coastal retreat. From structural reinforcements to designer finishes, every detail was crafted to fit the client’s vision.
